An instant classic. A report of a 1300km bicycle tour in September 1997, this is also a cultural trip through a very little known country - an excellent example of how bicycle touring can provide an insider approach to a country and its culture.
Includes photos and plenty of practical information. A grand job.

Great website!

He just got home from Romania, and he's happy to tell you all about it (particularly if you like a bit of a bike ride)

Your web page is really great [...] I actually read there some things I did not know about Romania.

Buna!! Multumesc! Multumesc! Multumesc!!!!! It's so refreshing to hear from someone else who gives Romania the respect she deserves!! I've only been too Romania once, this summer. I spent two months in Arad working at a childrens home. I have, however, been in love with Romania for a few years. Romania really is another world, but it's a marvelous one!!!!! It has so much to offer,  Thank you for sharing it!

Looks good mate, well done.

I looked over your page, I like it, but let me add [...] that the peasants' life in Romania is not so pink that some could imagine reading your description. They work hard from dawn to twilight. Of course not all of them. In the villages where the soil is rich and where they have equipment life is easier. But it's true, most are satisfied with their life.

(Jeroen: You're right. I hope I didn't overdo on Western European nostalgia.)

Thank you for your Romanian inority article that is pleasant and rewarding to read. It can be an enrichment for [..] discussions. In particular, it is orderly written with key-facts that can be confronted with those in other countries with ethnical issues. Your prudent conclusions open enough room for interesting discussions.

The information you supply on your pages is partly wrong and misleading. According to our personal impression you generate a negative image of Romania and its people, regardless if you do this by intention or not. Thank you for your understanding.

I was very impressed by the web page you posted about Romania. I am a Romanian myself, and I want you to know that your impressions and thoughts about Romania are more pleasant than those of many Romanian natives. Good thing to know that there are people out there that can see the good parts. Hope your page can persuade many people to visit Romania.

I was just at your web page and found it very charming, especially the 'conversation with a peasant'.  I can't wait!  I've bookmarked your site and look forward to viewing it more in depth when I can and before we travel. I just had to tell you that I thought your language page is GREAT!  I have been waiting for something like this to help with learning the language. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for every nice thing you said about my country. I like to read your comments about Romania; it reminds me of home.

As I browsed the net I found your pages about Romania. I must say that they are very interesting. You have all my credit for describing Romania as it is, and not as it is made by the Western media... thanks.
